About Us

Having sat on both sides of the table—outside counsel in a traditional law firm managing complex transactions, and in-house GC overseeing internal operations — I understood how to align board-level risk management with day-to-day execution. The fusion of these two approaches to servicing an organisation’s needs, led to the creation of Patronus Law.

A large part of my career spent in traditional law firms enabled me to see the disconnect between an organisation’s legal needs and the services being provided by a traditional corporate law firm. This often resulted in overpaying for legal work the organisation didn’t yet require. Also, the lack of understanding of an organisation’s culture and risk tolerances often prevent a traditional law firm from taking a risk based approach to an organisation’s legal requirements, which results in poor application of legal resources and ultimately the organisation firefighting unforeseen risks.

As an employed in-house GC, I saw how a dedicated, legal partner could unlock growth, close deals faster, and protect organisation value. One of the key benefits is knowing the organisation from the inside out, which enables strategic focus on what legal issues matter to an organisation, something which a traditional law firm struggles to do. However, what an in-house GC gains from being embedded in an organisation and emersed in its culture, it loses in terms of the depth of experience a traditional law firm brings.

Patronus Law is built to bridge that trade-off. We embed within our clients’ organisations, like an in-house GC—learning the business, the culture, and the risk tolerances—but do it as a fractional partner, so you only use the expertise you actually need. Because of the depth of experience of our team we can still run point on complex transactions, regulatory programs, and vendor negotiations, you get the depth of an outside firm without the overhead or disconnect. The result is a legal partner who knows your organisation inside-out, stays strategic on the issues that matter, and keeps costs tied directly to value delivered.
